Countdown to Fall.....

Ok, so we are 13 days away from the first official day of fall and it doesn't feel like summer plans on ending anytime soon. Fortunately, some added cloud cover today helped to keep our temps below 90 today. Hopefully by Tuesday and Wednesday we will feel at least a few degrees of a cool off as a cold front sweeps through the area.

This front will also bring our next best chance for rain. Maybe we will finally get out of the negative numbers for the month!! (wishful forecasting). A ridge will begin to build in once the front moves through, and sunny skies should wrap up the work week. While I love sunny weather, it also means warmer temps! By Friday and Saturday we may see temps above normal, getting into the lower 90's.

If you get caught out in a shower tomorrow afternoon,...just go inside and turn on some football! I'm sure josh will be doing that anyways! :)

have a great weekend!

Working For The Weekend..

* I don't know about you, but for me, it sure seems that time flies during football season. Perhaps it's because a lot of football fans live from Saturday to Saturday during the season.

* I'll be driving up Highway 45 to Starkville for the big MSU-Auburn game. As a diehard Alabama fan and MSU alum, I suppose I don't have to tell you who I'll be pulling for in that game!

* WEEKEND FORECAST: Looks pretty good. Best chance of rain will come on Sunday and into early next week. The weather should be nice for Auburn/MSU and Alabama/Vanderbilt. I'll post a more detailed forecast for all of the weekend's games tomorrow.

* FLO on the Go: Florence is moving towards the west-northwest and so far just can't seem to get better organized. We still expect this to turn towards the north and eventually northeast, scooting out to sea.

Florence Is Born...

* Tropical Depression Six officially became Tropical Storm Florence earlier today. That means that maximum sustained winds increased to 40 mph or greater.

* Florence is a large system, which usually means that it will require a gradual organization trend before any significant strengthening can occur. Unfortunately, it does appear that that organization trend is happening now. Showers and thunderstorms are developing close to the center of circulation, and the satellite presentation of the system has improved today.

* STRENGTH: Sure looks like Florence will become a hurricane soon, and could very well become a major hurricane.

* TRACK: The official forecast calls for Florence to pass between Bermuda and the Bahamas, turning north and running parallel to the East Coast of the U.S. However, it is far too early to say this will not impact the East Coast - so if you have interests in that part of the country, stay tuned.

* HERE: Florence won't affect us, and our weather will remain tranquil over coming days. Highs in the 80's, lows in the 60's, with very small rain chances. Welcome to September!

Labor Day Thoughts...

* What a fantastic weekend - plenty of college football and pleasant weather. Some are even fortunate enough to enjoy a three-day weekend. The weather hasn't been too bad at all - warm and dry, with plenty of sunshine.

* Temperatures today were a few degrees warmer than expected. Meridian's Key Field reached 92 earlier this afternoon, which is actually one degree above the average high for today.

* We are watching the tropics closely. Tropical Depression Six has formed in the Atlantic, and is moving towards the west. This will likely become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours, and could become a hurricane not long after that. For us, the news is pretty good - this will not be an issue in the Gulf of Mexico. But, the system (which will be called Florence if/when it gets a name) could impact the East Coast.

* 59 - that's our forecast high for Friday morning. That would be our first morning in the 50's since June 6, when we hit 55 degrees in Meridian. I sure get the idea that the worst of summer's heat is behind us.

* FALL FOLIAGE: We are building an online portfolio of YOUR fall foliage images. While the trees haven't really gotten started changing yet, we want to take the chance to remind you to send us any foliage pics (or any other interesting weather pics) to:

Tropical Depression Six

Well, after Ernesto, the Tropics appeared to be pretty calm. We looked to be in the clear, until the next tropical wave came off the west coast of Africa. An area of convection is beginning to circulate and as of right now has sustained winds of 35 mph with higher gusts. It is hard to actually pinpoint an exact center of circulation because it is so disorganized. In fact, there may be several smaller areas of circulations spinning around the actual center. Depression Six is located about 1395 miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles and its forward motion is approx. northwest at 12 mph.

This system should be encountering some southwesterly shear over the next day or two, but after that it will enter into a much more favorable environment for strengthening. This system is still several days out, but it is not out of the question for this depression to pulse up to tropical storm or hurricane strength.

We will keep a close eye on #6 and keep you updated as soon as we get the latest information!
