A little snow?

* A few snow showers have fallen across the area this morning and afternoon in areas north of I-20. Philadelphia reported a heavy snow shower for a brief period earlier this afternoon. A few showers, mixed with sleet or snow flurries, are still possible this afternoon. No accumulation is expected and any precipitation will be short lived.

That cold north wind...

* Temperatuers once again reached the upper 70s across East Mississippi and West Alabama. But changes are on the way! A trough will dig southward and bring in MUCH cooler air by friday, ushered in by a stiff northwesterly breeze. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper 50s, and will only reach the middle 40s by Friday! The cool air won't last for long, however, as temperatures rebound to the upper 60s and lower 70s by the Sunday and Monday.

* The weather should remain dry through the weekend. There is a slight chance of rain for Monday, but that chance is looking rather low at this point. We'll have to wait and see!

* My prediction for tonight's game: Texas 38 USC 35.....HOOK 'EM HORNS (I will never use that phrase ever again).

Cap Holds Strong

* Well the cap in place overnight held strong and thunderstorms did not develop. The threat for severe weather has now moved east of the area into Eastern Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.

* Unseasonable warmth continues today as the high temperature could very well make it to 80 degrees! Warm weather will continue through Wednesday before cooler weather finally works its way in. I am tempted to play a little golf today.......but football will take precedence! Roll Tide! (winning 7-3 at this point)

* Have a wonderful day and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Severe Weather Threat

* Watching the threat for severe weather overnight across the area. Atmospheric instability and wind shear will be at levels high enough for severe thunderstorms including the threats of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

* A fairly substantial temperature inversion, or a pocket of warm air aloft, is in place right now. This will inhibit some storms from forming. However, the upper level disturbance that will move through tonight should be strong enough to break the cap and allow storms to develop. Storms that do develop will have the capability to become strong and severe in a short amount of time.

* Now would be a good time to check the batteries in your NOAA weather radio. Based on the fact that this will be a nighttime event, it is even more important to have that radio ready to go!

* Will be evaluating the situation closely!
