Busy Times...

* This has been a very busy week in the world of weather, despite the tranquil weather. Monday morning, it was off to Enterprise, where I visited with Mrs. Tanner's group (and others) at Enterprise Middle School. They were a wonderful group of kids!

Today, I spent most of the afternoon at the services for former Congressman Sonny Montgomery. One of my chief regrets is that I never had the opportunity to meet the retired Congressman...But, the services were beautiful and touching - a great tribute for a man who gave so much for our people and our military.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be busy as well. I'm having some rather painful dental issues, so it's off to the dentist tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. I have a school visit scheduled for tomorrow at 12:45 pm at Crestwood Elementary in Meridian.

I have no school visits Thursday, but the Technical Difficulties WTOK softball team will be in action Thursday night at 7pm, out at Sammie Davidson. If you're in the neighborhood, come out and say hello...

On Friday, I get the opportunity to spend some time with my friends in Ms. House's class over at T.J. Harris Elementary...They are a GREAT bunch of kids; they are among my all-time favorite classroom groups. They are having a BARBEQUE on Friday, so I'm looking forward to that for sure...

I work the weekend shift this weekend as well...Perhaps I'll get some rest in June.

ON that note, I should mention that our own Renny Vandewege has had a GREAT week. Last weekend, Renny received his M.S. degree in Geosciences from Miss. State...Then, he was informed that he has landed a job as a weather producer at KCTV-5 in Kansas City, Missouri...We are obviously very proud of Renny...This is a great opportunity for him to work in a great weather market that is also much closer to his home of Nebraska...

A Few Showers/Storms

* A big and respectful tip of the cap to the planners and participants at the services for former Congressman Montgomery today. Our city, state, and country gave "Sonny" a send-off that would have made him proud...God Bless You, Sonny...

* Back to the weather...Showrs and storms have popped up at times...Check out the radar image above for details...A heavy shower is moving over Meridian right now..These will continue diving southeast through the next few hours, but should begin to diminish within a few hours of sunset..

Mostly Tranquil Weather

* Sure looks like we'll be dealing with a fairly dry work week...The deep upper trough we've been watching continues to spin away over the southern Ohio Valley, and this will leave our flow aloft coming from the north-northwest. This will serve to funnel cool and mostly dry air in here for the next few days.

* But, there is an off chance that we may see a few showers or storms pop up tomorrow afternoon. If we do, they won't last too long in any one location...Frankly, I think rain chances tomorrow are fairly small. But, you might want to carry along the umbrella just in case Murphy's Law is following you tomorrow!

* The rest of the week looks dry...We begin a warming trend on Thursday, with readings by the weekend reaching into the upper 80's. I get the idea the next couple of days may be some of the last really comfortable days we see for a while.

Showers North - Calm Here

* So far, so good on the thunderstorm issue...There have been a few storms tonight, but they have stayed well north of our area. As of 2 AM, the showers are right along the approaching surface front.

Low level moisture is limited; I note Meridian's dewpoint is at 58 right now...That's marginal, but given the extremely cold air aloft, that is probably enough moisture to sustain any thunderstorms that can get going along the front.

Bottom line: I expect a few showers and thunderstorms around daybreak, and some of those could be severe...Hail would be the main threat...
