I saw this from Alabama Power....
Last year, many customers in South Florida were without power for three weeks following Hurricane Charley, a storm comparable to Dennis. It also took three weeks to restore power following Hurricane Frederic, which struck the Gulf Coast in 1979.

Because of the track farther east, what kinds of winds are you still expecting in our area of Meridian?

At 4:05 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

How will this compare in the Meridian area to Ivan?

If this area receives 6-12 inches of rain...what impact could this have on some local lakes..Are they already near full or designed for this type of rainfall.

The blog mentions there will be streaming coverage on the internet. I can't seem to find the link. Am I overlooking it or isn't it available yet? Thanks.

From Maureen Lofton...

The City of Meridian will be open for business Monday as usual. All
employees should report for work at normal times, except those who are
working hurricane duty.

The 1300 block of 65th Avenue, near Westwwod Baptist Church, is blocked in
the northbound lane because of a downed tree.

Newton will not see a huge impact...Some rain, some wind...perhaps a few trees down...But the brunt of the storm will be extreme eastern MS and especially west Alabama...

Not sure about closings...

serviced on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be as always.

To put it another way, the ordinary Monday and Thursday routes will be run
on Tuesday and Thursday. The normal Tuesday and Friday routes will be run
on Wednesday and Friday.

East Philadelphia (Bloomo Community) has been without power since just before 9PM. No visible damage from my home, just occasional gusts that seem to be picking up in intensity.

The power has been out since 6:05 P.M. behind Broadmoor Shopping Center on 17th Avenue. Please make sure that a power crew knows about this. Our power has been out, but is back on now around 23rd Avenue and Country Club Drive.

At 1:07 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

As of approximately 5:00 PM, power was out along Hwy. 11 & 80 in Toomsuba. Seems to be affecting MS Power customers only - EMEPA customers still have power as far as we can tell. Also, there is a very large tree down on Hwy. 11 & 80 near Lauderdale-Toomsuba Road. This tree completely blocks the road, so anyone traveling east will need to exit at Russell and get on I-59/20.

Want to sing you's guyes praises today for the excellent storm coverage last night. Usually your coverage is a bit long winded and boring and on when a good show is on television, but last night was NEAT-O. The new radar (swanky) and the video, and the information on power outerges was grrrr-reat.

A real good friend of mind on 2905 Old Hwy 45 lost her trailer to a HUGE tree that with stood Ivan but this time it lost it's strength and came crashing down into her bedroom. Thank-God that she had left her home before the tree fell, and thank-God that she is alive & safe, her life can not be replace and her home can.. Thank-God for her safey...
