Sad Anniversary

* Today is the 33rd anniversary of the big tornado outbreak of May 27, 1973. Tornadoes ripped across Mississippi and Alabama, bringing death and destruction to many communities. One person was killed in Jones County as an F3 moved through there. An F2 hit Clarke County, and a second F2 hit Scott County as well. The tornadoes continued into west Alabama - the big one was the monster tornado that hit Brent, Alabama that night.

* Today is also the anniversary of a two day outbreak back in 1924 - this one also brought tremendous loss of life and property to our area. Both of these sad events should serve as a reminder that weather in Mississippi and Alabama can be very serious, even in late May.

* A much lighter note - I'm done for the week. Vacation begins tomorrow, and I'm heading out West with some old friends. We plan to see Texas, explore New Mexico, and go horseback riding and rafting in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I love America more than anything, and this should be a great, great chance to go see new parts of our great country! As you might notice, I'm very excited about the trip. I'll try to post some pics and blogs, if conditions and internet access allow it.
