Ring Around The Moon...
* If your out this evening you've probably noticed the ring around the moon. The rings are caused by the refraction of moonlight from high level cirrus clouds (ice crystals) in the upper atmosphere. The shape of the ice crystals results in a focusing of the light into a ring. Since the ice crystals typically have the same shape, namely a hexagonal shape, the moon ring is almost always the same size.* Also there is the saying "ring around the moon, storm coming soon..." We need some rain, so maybe this is a good sign and a hint at the rain chances tomorrow afternoon. These cirrus clouds are coming off the system that is bringing rain across Texas.
