We live in Rose Hill which is about 25 miles SW of Meridian. We have not had power since about 10:00. Now, we have no water. There is extensive tree damage around our area. We have had several large trees down and roof damage ourselves. Neighbors are reporting the same type of damage. The wind has not slacked up much and we have several large trees leaning. Our driveway and road are blocked.

My parents live out on Hwy 19 South in Meridian, MS. I am very worried about them, since we have not heard from them since late yesterday evening. Also, I have other family members and friends spread out all over the Meridian and Jackson area. I am currently in Northwest Florida, where we experienced some damage, but nothing near what happened in LA, MS, and AL. All of you are in my prayers. If anyone knows anything about the Hwy 19 South in Meridian area, please update us.

The damage is extensive in the north hills area, they are saying that power could be out, between 3 days and 3 weeks. I have not heard on MCC, but my guess is it will not re-open for a couple of days.

My mother lives in Meridian on 31st street right off of Poplar Springs Rd. Have not heard from her and can't get through on the phone. I'm her daughter in FL. 31st St. is close to the high school there. Anyone know the extent of damage and if power has been out? She relies on a nebulizer for emphysema and has no generator. She's also legally blind and lives alone. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thanks...

I am trying to get any info on Wiggins, I live in AZ and my mom is in Arkansas until she can return..any info? Thanks

At 4:15 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Josh Johnson,
She lives at 2719 31st Street. Phones ring and ring but no answer. She has a lady that comes and helps her and I tried her cell phone but it goes straight to voice mail. I left a message, but I'm sure she's not able to know she has a message if the cell systems are jammed. I'm in Daytona Beach, FL and we couldn't call out on cell phones for 2-3 days after Charley or Frances.

Thank you for your quick response.

I just recently relocated to Columbus, MS about two weeks ago. from my hometown Meridian. I wish I was there with you all my family and friends are there. Trying to reach anyone on Monday was nerve racking I could not get through. But thanking God late last night I was able to reach one relative by cell phone. And today I talked to another relative. I found out everyone is doing good but still without power today at 5pm in the area of 3900 block and 10th st and 1100 block and 46th ave. My prayers are with my family and friends that they will soon have lights and are able to get water and food. And my prayers are with everyone in Meridian. I love you all and miss you all. Hope to see you all soon!

Hey...

Power is out across almost every county in our area. Cell phone communications are spotty at best. Power crews are working hard to restore things - but it may take a while. Remember, they have to basically rebuild the entire power infrastructure. Hope that helps - wish I could provide more info...

Does anyone have any info on the Rose Hill/Fellowship area in Jasper county south of Meridian? My parents live in that area and I have not been able to reach them since Monday. Are the roads in that area passable so we could bring them food and water from the atlanta area. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Our prayers are with you all.

At 8:44 AM, Blogger WTOK Weather Staff said...

Hey,

Rose Hill/Jasper County is still mostly unpassable...too many trees blocking roads...

The last I heard, NAS was doing fine. Power was out in most of Lauderdale County, and many roads are barely passable. Phone communications remain tenuous at best.
